Brief History

The San Juan Estate is one of the oldest and largest fully functioning privately owned cocoa estates in Trinidad. It is situated in the lush, tropical Montserrat Hills region of Gran Couva, Trinidad known for its “chocolate soil” and spans over 750 acres (approximately 300 hectares). Operations at the San Juan estate go back to early 1880 and the “terroir” of the area is a registered Geographical Indication that lends to fermentation and drying conditions that for over a century have borne some of the most sought-after flavourful cocoa. Beans from the San Juan Estate were used in the first ever single estate, single origin chocolate bar with a distinctive flavour profile.
